DBS appoints Sebastian Paredes as head of North Asia

Paredes will continue in his role as CEO of DBS Bank (Hong Kong).

Sebastian Paredes, current CEO of DBS Bank (Hong Kong), has been appointed by DBS in the newly-created role as head of North Asia.

Paredes will have oversight of Hong Kong, mainland China, and Taiwan.

Ginger Cheng, CEO of DBS Bank (China) and Ng Sier Han, newly-appointed CEO of DBS Taiwan will both report to Sebastian Paredes. Both Cheng and Ng will also be members of DBS’ Group Management Committee.

Paredes has served as CEO of DBS Bank (Hong Kong) since September 2010. He is also currently a non-executive director of DBS Bank (China).

Under his leadership, DBS rose to become the fifth-largest bank in Hong Kong by income and the fourth-largest by net profit, breaking the US$1b mark in 2022.

“The management changes reflect DBS’ deep bench strength and our grooming of talent from within. The creation of a new Head of North Asia role will also enable us to give greater focus and oversight to a region that will only grow in importance in the coming years,” said DBS CEO Piyush Gupta.
