Malaysian Islamic finance still a work in progress: Regent

More efforts must be made by Malaysian firms to manage risks in the Islamic financial system.

Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, said that although the Malaysian financial sector made a strong start in the global market, it was was still a work-in-progress.

"For example, the liquidity of the secondary markets for Islamic financial instruments has to be worked on so that the markets clear efficiently and accurate pricing can be ascertained," he said.

"Longer-dated debt maturities have to be developed if they are to offer viable alternatives to conventional finance," he added.

Raja Nazrin said this at the launch of the book, "An Introduction to Islamic and Conventional Corporate Finance".
