SMBC appoints ex-Credit Suisse China CEO as new APAC managing director
Carsten Stoehr will join SMBC on 19 February after 25 years in Credit Suisse.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has named Carsten Stoehr as managing director, deputy head of Asia Pacific.
Stoehr will oversee the structured lending and private wealth businesses across the region. He will work closely with the SMBC to drive further growth and maximise client opportunities.
He will be based in Singapore and will join SMBC on 19 February.
Prior to joining SMBC, Stoehr spent 25 years in Credit Suisse, where he was most recently managing director, CEO for Greater China, as well as the chairman of the board of Credit Suisse (HK) and Credit Suisse Securities (HK).
As Greater China CEO, he was responsible for leading Credit Suisse’s business across the Greater China region, spanning Investment Banking, Wealth Management and Asset Management.
Before that, Stoehr was head of the Asia Strategic Products in CS, wherein he was responsible for the integrated Financing platform for all financing and lending, securitization and syndication activities across the Asia Pacific.
Before Credit Suisse, Stoehr worked at Standard Chartered where he was global head of capital markets and financial market sales.
