Indonesia moves forward with plan to standardise QR code payments

The central bank has already finished the technical-heavy stage.

Bank Indonesia (BI) is making significant inroads with its plan to standardise the payment process using QR codes after it formed a working group composed of industry representatives of payment service providers following a successful initial stage, reports Jakarta Post.

This comes after the first phase of the standardisation pilot test has been completed and the QR payment standardisation enters into second phase which will sort out business issues. "The first phase has been completed. It solved technical issues," said Anthoni Morris, the director of interbank network provider PT Artajasa Pembayaran Elektronik.

The first phase of the pilot test which started in late August involved Artajasa, state-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Telkomsel's digital payment service T-Cash, and Bank Permata. The stage also tested the interoperability of QR transactions with banks, telcos and fintechs.

BI plans to conduct three test runs for national QR payment standardisation which are expected to form the basis of upcoming regulations.

The QR code payment would then be applied to the national payment gateway (GPN) network infrastructure.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
